PAUL REED SMITH > Mira

WEBSITE: PRS GUITARS

My first thought on the Mira was LP junior, with a couple p-90′s, and a piezo?! I was close, but off a bit. The Mira from Paul Reed Smith is their solution for a “retro” sound, with the amenities of now.

For years, Paul Reed Smith has been offering high quality guitars made in Maryland. They are the guitar of choice for many, many high-profile modern rock artists, and classic rock artists. The Mira is shadowing a Les Paul Junior from the late-50s or early-60s, an extremely desirable guitar which is currently showing a sale price starting around $8,000 for a “player” model in stock cherry finish. I remember when that same guitar was going for $1,300…and I passed.

Latin for “wonderful,” Mira is also the name of an unusually fast-moving star located approximately 350 light years from earth. Wow. The PRS Mira model is a 24-fret guitar that features a 25″ scale length, 10″ radius, regular or wide-thin neck shape, locking tuning pegs, PRS non-adjustable stoptail, Abalone cosmic moons inlays, optional bird (or war eagle) inlays, East Indian rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany body and neck, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume, tone, 3-way blade switch and mini toggle coil tap. The Mira model is offered in range of colors too: Vintage Cherry, Orange, Vintage Mahogany, Black, Wild Mint, Lilac, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue and Sandstorm.

I say go for it, especially if you get the cosmic moon inlays, bro. I took it to practice and everybody dug it. It’s more clean than soapy, so LP Jr. folks, it’s a different kinda soap. Visit www.prsguitars.com to check out the specs.
