Have you ever wanted to sing onstage with a harmony section derived from a foot pedal? Now you can. Forget about whiny overpaid actual musicians and put your foot down! OK, OK. I know nothing beats the power and emotion of Art Garfunkel getting your back, but some of us aren’t that fortunate. The Vocalist Live 4 actually analyzes the output of an electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar and generates the corresponding vocal harmony through its musIQ technology. This technology detects the frequency of the pitch generated from the guitar and recognizes the notes in that key. It recognizes the key of the song and harmonizes accordingly to whatever you are trying to sing. Of course, all the lyrics and phrasing are an exact match. There are 50 presets which mix all the parameters for you according to the effect desired. These range from Blind Boys, a gospel like effect with fifths and thirds and a deep lead vocal to fun things like Borg, a metallic robot kind of lead. Different guitar effects are also included. One test I did was to go up a scale on the guitar playing one note at a time singing just the root note to see if the harmonies would change out of key. It reacted with perfection. The layout of the menu requires just a few minutes consulting the manual. With just a little time storing some preferred presets, you will be on the road to harmony ecstasy. The audience will be scratching their heads looking for the backup singers.
