EMILiANA TORRINI > Me and Armini

While she mines Bjork’s territory of gliding, ethereal pitches surrounded by techno atmospherics, Torrini, with the aid of producer Dan Carey, works best in minimal settings and falls back more often on a willowy, dreamy manner of lyric effusion and storytelling. With a goofy sing-along to the devolved rockabilly guitar riff and shuffle beat of “Jungle Drum” and the lightly obsessive, dark relationship themes set to the poppy, reggae riffs of the title track and “Heard It All Before,” Torrini draws from a wide palette without pretending to climb the exhausting peaks of her Icelandic counterpart.
