On the heels of the peer-to-peer networking giant’s recent push to turn legit by becoming a law-abiding digital music retailer, LimeWire has attracted bittersweet chanteuse Lisa Loeb to promote their “Live at Lime” sessions. A digital venue for all-live, exclusive content – which began this summer with The Morning Benders, and followed recently by Juliana Hatfield and Langhorne Slim – the sessions provide digital-only EPs to their ever-expanding store. Set for release December 9, Loeb’s acoustic performance is not only a star-power boost for LimeWire, but a strong push to lend credibility to the network’s infamous RIAA dodging. Instead of pocketing sales, proceeds will rollover directly to Loeb’s own Camp Lisa Foundation, a non-profit to aid in sending underprivileged children to summer camps. Appropriately, the sessions are said to include a spattering of children’s songs on top of Loeb’s original material.

While no amount of charitable promotions or legal dealings in the present tense will bail them out of years worth of legal malfeasance, LimeWire remains one of last great threats of the original p2p rogues. No doubt others like it have and will continue to replace them as they leave behind their questionable file-sharing service, but for now, LimeWire is poised to make a noteworthy splash in the business community.
