In a slightly unorthodox celebration of what would have been legendary Doors’ frontman Jim Morrison’s 65th birthday (he was born December 8, 1943), scientists have fabricated an image of what the rocker and poet would look like today if he were still alive.

The scientists responsible for the project are from St. Andrews University and used a special computer program that emulates natural aging (particularly between the ages of 40 and 70) in various features such as hair and skin. The photograph used was of Morrison in his mid-twenties.

Scientists' Rendering

This is the latest in a series of posthumous images conducted by the University, which has included John Lennon and Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe. Scientists involved in the study are also optimistic about the potential usefulness of the program in cases of missing persons who may have aged considerably since they were last seen.

Morrison died in Paris on July 3, 1971 at age 27 of a heart attack. He is still renowned by fans around the world for both his music and his poetry. Former Doors bandmates Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger plan to celebrate his birthday at one of Morrison’s favorite places, West Hollywood eatery Barney’s Beanery.
