Rage Against the Machine Will Not Go to Work on a New Album

While Rage Against the Machine fans can expect more shows in the future, perhaps even the occasional riot, the group will not be working on a new album, according to guitarist Tom Morello. “There are no plans for that,” Morello told Billboard. “We’ve had a wonderful year and a half of playing shows, and I don’t see any reason to not play more shows. The thing is there’s only so many hours in the musical day, and mine are very occupied right now.” So, despite a very successful reunion in 2007 after a seven-year hiatus, Rage will let their studio efforts rest with 1999’s The Battle of Los Angeles.

Instead, Morello will turn to his alter-ego/solo act The Nightwatchman, which he created in 2003 to vent political steam while playing with the non-political group Audioslave. He says that The Nightwatchman will be “my principal musical focus, as I see it, for the remainder of my life.”

Morello isn’t sure when his third album-the follow-up to April 2007’s One Man Revolution and September 2008’s The Fabled City-will come out, but with over 50 original tunes not yet put to tape, he has plenty of material to work with.
