U2 fans can quit waiting-Bono and the boys are finally planning to release a follow-up to 2004’s hit How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Their latest effort, No Line on the Horizon, is set to hit shelves March 2, 2009.

Loyal U2 producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois will be working on the project, with additional help from Steve Lillywhite (who produced the band’s debut album Boy in 1980). The band Rick Rubin-produced tracks previously recorded for the album. This record should have a global feel, as the tracks were written in several international cities including New York, Dublin, and Fez, Morocco.

U2 guitarist the Edge (real name David Howell Evans) says the album is different from anything the band has done so far. “It sounds like a U2 album but it doesn’t sound like anything we’ve done before and it doesn’t really sound like anything that’s happening at the moment,” he explained.

The album will be released in five different ways, giving U2 fans ultimate sonic variety in choosing how they want to hear Horizon. Obviously there will be standard CD and vinyl offerings, but three other options will be available for those who “still haven’t found what they’re looking for”…

The first of these options is a digi-pack that includes the entire album, a poster, a 36-page booklet, and a downloadable film by Corbijn. Another version includes the album and film with a 60-page magazine. Finally, a box-set including two posters, a DVD of the film, and a 60-page hardback book will be available for the diehard U2 fans out there.

No track listing for the album has been released yet.
