The L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. played an important role in this session. These direct input boxes have been making quite the reputation for themselves and now I can hear the reason why. Upon first hearing about the idea of using a D.I. on a bluegrass band I was slightly skeptical. Most people usually are. Listing at $229.00, these boxes sounded quality. The five-band equalizer exhibits a tunable notch and a selectable midrange control. The Low band is set to 85Hz, and the notch (helpful for minimizing feedback) spans from 98 to 247Hz. This can wrangle in a muddy sound or add some beef to a thin sounding acoustic guitar. The Mid ranges from 400Hz to 1.6kHz, the presence is set to 5kHz, and the treble is at 10kHz. A handy FX Loop and Invert selector (to change phase) is also included. By far the most impressive characteristic is the tone that these allow an acoustic instrument to achieve.
