It used to be that musical appearances on the Colbert Report were a rare occurance, but lately it’s becoming a trend — one that we would never dream of giving a “wag of our finger” to. In the past few months, Stephen Colbert has welcomed Wilco, Paul McCartney, TV on the Radio, Kris Kristofferson, and David Byrne.

Last night, it was the lovely Lisa Hannigan who got “the Colbert bump.” Some may remember her from her time playing with folk-rocker Damien Rice — Hannigan toured with Rice and appeared on his critically acclaimed albums O and 9. Together, the duo were a sort precursor to the Swell Season.

Now the Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has set out on her own, releasing the album Sea Sew, which the New York Times has called “exquisitely ethereal.”

Check out her performance of the song “I Don’t Know” below.
