When love held hate outside the door
to let the rains of passion pour
bliss was all that could occur
always so concise
Our emotions took a nightly tour
through terrain traversed before
but each trip just encouraged more
within our paradise
Love made us stars within its cast
our names top-billed in marquee flash
Like legends, we’d always last
until the final curtain
But lines get old and scenes lose class
Spotlights turn souls cold and crass
shattering naive hearts of glass
with an aim so certain

CHORUS

Love can be heaven when it’s right
but hell when it’s wrong
with two hearts tangled where they don’t belong
Two sour notes in an out of tune song
Yeah, love can be hell when it’s wrong
But two kindred spirits can make sparks in the night
‘cause love can be so much heaven when it’s right

Now love and hate are juxtaposed
and all the open options closed.
I feel I’m being overdosed
within the hot crossfire
I’ll raise my glass and make a toast
to times when I could boldly boast
Now, at best, I barely coast
upon deflated tires
I’m sick of love and all its catches
all its pain and vain mismatches
It’s left my heart torn in patches
and stumbling at the start
I’m gonna batten down all the hatches
lock the locks and latch the latches
and make sure no love attaches
its hooks into my heart

REPEAT CHORUS

  1. Just read 2nd place lyrics, “Heaven, When It’s Right” by Larry Black. Much, much better than your Grand Prize winner for “Magnets.” Again, I wonder who’s doing the judging here.
I think you guys made a BIG mistake!
