Hohner_Essentials_Folk Hohner has been synonymous with great-sounding, quality harmonicas and accordions for more than 150 years—which was why I was a bit circumspect when holding their Essential Series Folk model (EL-SF) guitar for the first time. I changed my mind after one E chord. One chord easily turned into an afternoon of enjoyment, while I played as many styles as I’m capable of and found the guitar suited for each one. It shines as a fingerstyle folk guitar with its true, honest tone and has a balanced projection due to the “Frequency Matching” system. The guitar blended evenly and melodically while I sang, staying in tune while I gave it a Beatles lesson. The EL-SF Plus boasts a solid sitka spruce top with mahogany back and sides and a rosewood fretboard. A micro-thin satin finish with a very light coat of polyurethane means more top vibration, although some care must be taken to clean the guitar after playing. The Earvana Compensated Tuning System nut and bridge comes ready-fit on this guitar and gives it a more accurate intonation. Overall, a Hohner Essential is a very price-friendly and worthwhile investment.
