The Walkmen Channel The Spirit Of Portugal On Lisbon

Videos by American Songwriter

After having established their place on numerous year-end “best of” lists with their 2008 album You & Me, The Walkmen push further still with their latest album, Lisbon. Their first album for Mississippi blues label Fat Possum, Lisbon will hit stores on September 14.

Lisbon’s eleven songs (whittled down from an original 29) were recorded over a two-year period in warehouses on Girard Avenue in Philadelphia and on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn. Fittingly, the songs that most fully establish the record’s signature sound were written during several of the Walkmen’s inspiring trips to Lisbon, Portugal.

Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser says Libson will feature “a bunch of fast rockers and big bashers, and a couple of great oddballs.”

The Walkmen will promote their new album with a nation-wide tour this fall, beginning on August 12 in New York City and ending on October 23 in Philadelphia.
