Clapton, Mayer And Richards Turn Their Guitar Strings Into Fashion Accessories

Videos by American Songwriter

We’ve heard of buying your favorite rock star’s used guitar or signed copy of a classic record, but wearing a piece of jewelry from your beloved musical icon is like music to our ears.

The organization Wear Your Music has its very own jewelry makers who craft unisex bracelets from the donated guitar strings and recycled fine silver from some of the most renowned and up-and-coming musicians. The proceeds from the bracelet sales go directly to a specific charity selected by the artist.

Since Wear Your Music began with the bracelet sales, the company has teamed up with more than 150 artists with proceeds benefiting a wide-range of charities. “This year alone we’ve donated to over 52 charities on behalf of over 100 artists,” says Wear Your Music Co-President Hannah Garrison.

Artists who have already donated guitar parts for bracelet production include the Rolling Stone’s Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Tim McGraw and Avril Lavigne, to name just a few.

If you are interested in purchasing a custom-made Wear Your Music bracelet or want to check out more from this latest fad, stop by the company’s website at www.wearyourmusic.org.
