Gwyneth Goes Country, Readies New Single

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is getting ready to release a new single titled “Country Strong,” on RCA Nashville, on August 23rd. The song comes as part of Paltrow’s upcoming movie of the same name, rather than as a mid-career foray into recording.

In the movie, Paltrow portrays a washed-up country singer named Kelly Canter, who is aiming for a comeback. Tim McGraw stars alongside her as her husband and manager, Ed.

Though Paltrow’s first calling is not that of a singer or musician, she had some help on background vocals from Vince Gill and Patty Griffin, plus the aid of her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, while learning to play guitar for the role.

“It was a real challenge, but I felt like I pretty much pulled it off,” she told MTV news.

Paltrow also sang in the 2000 movie Duets, which centered around the world of karaoke competitions.

The film is set to hit theaters nationally on December 22. Listen to the single here.

  1. Not feeling it. But, I’ll check it out. Gwyneth just seems to far from a country singer with her “brit” lifestyle and “goop” website. And this movie seems to be an obvious “jump on the wagon” of Crazy Heart.
