Weezer Get Lost And Found On Hurley

Videos by American Songwriter

Alternative rock band Weezer have teamed up with eclectic indie label Epitaph Records for their latest studio album, Hurley, which will mark both a return to the band’s indie-rock roots, and signal a new beginning in Weezer’s musical progression.

Produced by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and Raditude producer Shawn Everett (Phantom Planet, Ozomatli), Hurley (due September 14) includes high-energy rock songs like lead single, “Memories,” acoustic power ballads (“Unspoken”) the Sixties-influenced jams (“Time Flies”) and a return to the classic Weezer sound with several other tracks.

The band has high hopes for their latest project. “We all felt that the really intense, raw emotional side of Weezer is what’s going to make everyone the happiest at this moment,” Cuomo tells the Los Angeles Times.

Their also determined to impress fans with the album’s artwork, as the band is known for its eccentric album covers. What direction did the guys take on Hurley? An extreme close-up of actor Jorge Garcia, most known for his appearance on the hit television show Lost.

“…No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face,” Cuomo said in an interview with Spinner.com.

Don’t wait until September 14th to check out Weezer’s revamped indie-rock vibe. As of today, fans can pre-order Hurley at EpitaphStore.com or at Amazon.com, while the single “Memories” can be heard at MySpace.com/Weezer and bought on iTunes.
