The Classic EZX brings the sound and feel of ‘70s-era drums to your sessions via the extremely popular and user-friendly EZ Drummer program, by Toontrack. EZ Drummer operates as a virtual drum kit plug-in within your DAW, and provides you with a realistic-looking drum kit that allows auditioning and playing sounds by clicking on each individual drum, or by using a MIDI controller. The Classic EZX is an add-on for EZ Drummer that expands upon its already impressive library of drum grooves and kits. The drums in the Classic EZX were recorded through a vintage Helios console, and played by ‘70s legends Chris Whitten and Peter Fredlander on Yamaha, Craviotto, and Noble & Crowley kits. What really makes the Classic EZX special are the two microphone setups that were used to record it, which are now available to you in your sessions. There’s a standard, full mic setup, for a more modern sound, as well as an incredibly impressive four-mic setup, which consists of a kick, snare, and two “overheads” placed equidistant from the snare, with one on the snare side, and the other by the floor tom (as employed by Glyn Johns on countless recordings). This microphone technique, which was so popular during the ‘70s, is essential to the vintage sound you can achieve with the Classic EZX. Both microphone setups include a separate stereo pair of room mics, for adding some ambience to the tracks, and can be blended in using the mixer within the Classic EZX. Easy to use, fun to experiment with, and packaged with an exquisite sound library, the EZX classic proves to be a great addition to an already stellar virtual instrument.
