Stream The New R.E.M. Album

Videos by American Songwriter

Acolytes of Michael Stipe, today is your big day. The good folks at NPR Music are streaming Collapse Into Now, which they’re calling “the band’s most rewarding album in 15 years,” in it’s entirety, before the March 8 release date.

Special guests on the album include Patti Smith and Eddie Vedder, and Peaches. Bassist Mike Mills is calling it their best album since Out Of Time.

Is the praise part of the usual release date hyperbole, or is actually true that R.E.M. have returned to form? Stream the album here, and let us know how your thoughts on Collapse Into Now in the comments.

  1. I’m in to the 4th song of the new R.E.M. album so far and I am pleasantly surprized. Fables of … was my introduction to the band and I always liked their early albums because they were complete listens, not real stand outs but collection of songs that weaved together effortlessly. Then came the hit songs, then when the hits stopped the band is perceived to be washed up. Now does the band try too hard to produce hit songs and in so doing lose the true essence of their being and fail miserably. I think R.E.M. did just that. This album seems looser than recent releases.
