Modern country star Ty Stone has an appreciation for the classics. Stone, whose new album American Style is available online, sent us this list of his heroes from the era of Jimmy Carter, disco and platform shoes. Catch Ty on tour now.

1. Mac Davis – Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way. What more can I say.
2. Kris Kristofferson – Not only starred as the Rubber Duck in Convoy (the baddest mother trucker on 18 wheels) but he also wrote “Sunday Mornin’ Coming Down,” and that’s my jam.
3. Jerry Reed is here similarly for his role as the Snowman in Smokey and the Bandit, but also as a world class storyteller, with a hell of a sound.
4. Ronnie Milsap – Blind. Also rocked “Smoky Mountain Rain,” a song I still jam every time I go to Gatlinburg. Plays better than most guys that can see the piano.
And of course, 5. is the Roaster, himself… Mr. Kenny Rogers. Classic enough to sing “The Gambler” and “Coward of the County”… disco enough to sing “The Hoodooin’ of Miss Fannie DeBerry” (Look it up. Also, while you’re looking up deep cuts off The Gambler record, look up “The King of Oak Street.” Dare you not to cry…)
