Videos by American Songwriter

New Orleans jazz composer Dr. Michael Whitewas inspired by the tradition of turning old pop songs into New Orleans Jazz when he wrote “I Love You Too Much To Ever Leave.”

“Many of the old jazz legends I used to play with when I was younger – like Kid Thomas Valentine, Percy Humphrey and Kid Sheik Colar used to play songs in this vein,” White says. “I wanted to do something original that had that kind of sly romantic twist in the words, a bouncy rhythm and a melody good traditional jazz ensemble playing and solos. It brings the good old days back in a fresh new way.”

Check out the swingin’ track below, which is from his new album Adventures In New Orleans Jazz Part 2, out today.
