Song Premiere: Annie And The Beekeepers, “My Bonneville”

Videos by American Songwriter

Songs about cars have always held a special place in popular music; they date back to before Woody Guthrie’s time. Bruce Springsteen is known as the poet laureate of the motor vehicle.

Adding to the pile of car songs is New England indie-folk artist Annie Lynch of Annie and the Beekeepers. Check out this beguiling track from My Bonneville, out August 28.

“When [co-writer] Andy Burri and I started playing together, he really wanted for us to write something that could create a break from all the heavier songs in our set,” Lynch tells American Songwriter. “We were hanging out one day and i was telling him about my first car, a 1985 Bonneville. It was a totally embarrassing car to be driving around at age 16, but I had a lot of great times with it. I never would have thought of writing a song about the Bonneville but when Andy suggested it, it came out instantly. We had so much fun writing it together. It was a completely different feeling of catharsis from my usual experience of writing more mellow or melancholy material on my own.”
