Ben Harper’s Stax Records Debut Get Up! Due In January

Following his departure from Virgin Records, Ben Harper has partnered with harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite to deliver his first album, Get Up!, with Stax Records. Recorded in Los Angeles, and produced by Harper himself, Get Up! will be Harper’s twelfth studio album to date.

“Charlie and I have been looking to make this record for over ten years and now that we’ve gotten to it,” stated Harper, “I can’t wait to play it live.”

The album will be a powerful mix of blues, gospel, roots, and R&B, reportedly. Musselwhite’s harp-work fuses around Harper’s lyrics, which vividly depict characters at their most vulnerable. “Don’t Look Twice,” The opening track off the album, illustrates this beautifully, particularly when the convict in the song sizes up the truth as Harper growls: “Don’t tell me I can’t break the law/Cause the law has broken me.”

Harper’s new album is set to be released January 29, 2013.
