Song Premiere: The Hounds Below, “Since He Came To Play”

Videos by American Songwriter

Jason Stollsteimer of The Von Bondies has a new band, the impressive indie rock outfit The Hounds Below. You may have seen them on Carson Daly, or caught them on tour with the Cribs.

Actually, they’ve been around for awhile, but they’ve never recorded a full-length album. Until now.

The Michigan quartet’s debut You Light Me Up In The Dark drops Oct 9 on Slimstyle Records. Listen to the album track “Since He Came To Play” below.

“I feel like this song is edgier and darker than the rest of our album,” Stollsteimer tells American Songwriter. ” Musically, it sounds to me like it was in the vein of a Queens Of The Stone Age song, though that wasn’t an overt influence.  I can say that writing this song was a beacon of light during a dark time in the writing process.  A proverbial wall was hit within the band and this song in particular reignited our creative spark and led the way for the songwriting to kick into hyper-drive.”
