Video Premiere: Susan McKeown, “No Jericho”

Videos by American Songwriter

Check out Irish singer-songwriter Susan McKeown’s new music video for “No Jericho,” from her upcoming album Belong, out November 13. The album draws inspiration from the Grammy-winner’s life in America.

“‘No Jericho’ relates to two songs from my first album Bones, from 1995; however it’s written from the perspective of many years on,” McKeown tells American Songwriter. “It begins with me pushing out from the Kerry shore where I lived before I left Ireland, and kind of floating across the Atlantic to the banks of the East River, where I have lived since. It’s as if I’ve finally caught up with myself.

“I met [Irish filmmaker] Niall McKay a few weeks before he shot the video. I was actually on my way to the studio to record when I remembered that he had said to call him if I needed footage from the studio, so he came out an hour later and took the band shots. We did the snow shots on the roof of his apartment – that was a really cold day – and he took the rest of the footage cycling around Brooklyn and Manhattan.”
