Jonny Fritz and Andrew Combs, both featured in American Songwriter’s upcoming January/February issue, have teamed up for a new video series called VHSessions.

Fritz, who interviews legend Billy Joe Shaver for the magazine, says he started VHSessions as an homage to the music site Daytrotter.

“I was inspired by Daytrotter and wanted to do something similar with video footage of all the bands/friends of mine that come stay at my house,” says Fritz. “I bought this old ass camera and as long as it’s working I’ll keep uploading this VHSessions (or until I get tired of it) on my YouTube channel.”

Andrew Combs, who appears in the Gruhn Guitars spreadin the new issue, gave Fritz an analog rendition of a new song called “Part Time Lovers (Full Time Fools),” which he co-wrote with Nashville songwriter Jabe Beyer.

“’Part Time Lovers (Full Time Fools)’ is a song I wrote off a title I had in my head for a while,” says Combs. “Basically it’s just about looking back on a relationship between two young and naive characters. Everyone’s been there before.”

Combs heads to the 30A Songwriters Festivallater this month, before hitting the road to open for Shovels & Rope in February. Fritz will play Nashville on January 11 with his first cousin once removed, David Allan Coe.
