Mumford & Sons Threaten To Rap On New Album

Mumford and Sons

But will they change their name to Mumford and Sonz?

Now that they’ve won the Grammy for Album of the Year for Babel, which stylistically resembles their 2010 breakout album Sigh No More, Mumford & Sons are thinking about switching things up.

“We really want to rap,” frontman Marcus Mumford tells Rolling Stone. “We’ve just got so much to say – saying it through a melody doesn’t really work for me. We’ve been talking with Jay-Z about it, you know. It’s gonna be a fresh experience for our band.”

Whether Mumford was joking or not (and he probably was), he’s not the first rocker to get the idea of collaborating with the Jigga Man — Jack White made similar comments about working with Jay-Z, going so far as to record a song together. It’s yet to be released… but we’ll always have this Insane Clown Posse collabo.

Would rap and Americana music make strange bedfellows? You’d have to imagine they would. Unless Kanye West hops on a track by The Lumineers between now and Mumfords’ third album, we’ll just have to wait to see how this whole thing pans out.
