Ryan McNally of indie-folk duo Old Time Machine wrote “All The While” about a friend’s passing, but you’d never guess that from watching the song’s music video – not at first, anyway. The sporadic, choppy montage of characters and scenes feels random, but each of them actually represents both the song’s lyrics and their friend’s personality.

“Our friend who passed was the kind of guy who was friends with everyone” says director of photography Gary Bremmer. “He was a nomad, a musician, an artist, a humanitarian, etc. We wanted to represent that as a selection of weird characters in strange scenarios.”

Old Time Machine, formed in 2009, consists of McNally and bandmate Kyle Cashen. The band released its self-titled debut in April 2012 and the single “All The While” in May 2013.

Says Cashen: “When we finally saw [the video], we were awestruck and overwhelmed with how those guys captured the way that we feel about the song and its lyrics. It was so dope to see friends and family come together and play those characters so well.”
