Spottiswoode & His Enemies
The Artist:
New York folk/pop vets Spottiswoode & His Enemies
The Album: English Dream, out April 15th on Old Soul Records.
Fun Fact: The band created videos for each song on the album dressed in period clothing in front of old British Council film footage.
Songwriter Says: “Most of my songs are portraits or twisted soulscapes. However, the songs on English Dream are landscapes – country, city, garden, beach. They take their time and unfold, with more space and breath than my usual ditties,” Jonathan Spottiswoode says.

“My mother is an opera singer who turned to painting in her later years. Like me she plays with different styles. To me her landscapes from her childhood in North Dakota are the most authentic. I hope these songs reflecting my childhood in England have a similar feel… As if they’ve been painted with oil.”
