Alanis Morissette Pays Tribute to “Big Sur” In New Video

Videos by American Songwriter

“All roads lead to Big Sur.” Alanis Morissette takes a road trip down the California coast in her new video for “Big Sur,” a bonus track off her most recent album Havoc and Bright Lights.

In the video, Morissette hitchhikes along Highway One and plays guitar with friends on the beach in Big Sur. The isolated region south of San Jose is famous as a favorite hideaway of artists and writers like Anaïs Nin, Henry Miller and Jack Kerouac, whom she name checks in the song.

“Enthralled by the redwoods/As I ride amongst monarchs and the myths/Me and Anaïs and Henry and Jack Kerouac,” she sings. In the video’s description Morissette calls the song her “ode to Big Sur with all it’s majesty.”

“Big Sur” has been released as a limited edition signed vinyl. Morissette recently announced a set of “Intimate and Acoustic” shows in the North east this summer. Read our review of Havoc and Bright Lights here.
