Foo Fighters released an exclusive preview of their new album and documentary during the May 31 broadcast of the 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The band will release the yet untitled album this November on Roswell/RCA, along with an HBO series directed by Grohl chronicling the album’s creation. In order to capture the eclectic musical culture of America, the album was recorded in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington DC. Grohl wrote the lyrics at the end of each recording session, reflecting his experience in each city. During the recording, the band worked with local guest musicians and producers.

“I’ve pulled up the family tree of American music and exposed its roots to find inspiration for the next Foo Fighters album,” Grohl said. “This is a musical map of America.”

The accompanying documentary, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, will premiere this fall to mark the band’s 20th anniversary. Grohl previously directed the Grammy-winning documentary Sound City about a famous Los Angeles recording studio. Watch a preview of Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, including a snippit of a song from the new album, below.
