Ann Arbor-based singer-songwriter Vincent Colbert writes tunes that are heart-rending yet filled with hope. His painstakingly honest lyrics and tender vocal delivery capture a sentiment many can relate to. He’ll be releaseing an EP titled Stranger In My House in January. We have the pleasure of showcasing the first single, “Baseline.”

ARTIST: Vincent Colbert

SONG: Baseline

BIRTHDATE: October 7, 1986

HOMETOWN: Martinsburg, PA

CURRENT LOCATION: Ann Arbor, MI

AMBITIONS: To write honest songs that people can relate to and be encouraged by. I’d love to get to the point where I’m working full-time as a songwriter and performer. I love to travel, so it would be incredible to experience new places and cultures while sharing my music with others.

TURN-OFFS: People beeping in traffic for no apparent reason, loud chewing, cold overcast winter days, and road construction in Michigan

TURN-ONS: Coffee!

DREAM GIG: I love big theater-style venues with cool architecture and lots of history. For example, I’d love to play at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas.

FAVORITE LYRIC: Currently, “Fire of Time” by David Ramirez. From the chorus:

You remind me who I was and who I want to be
You remind me that though not whole, I’m not empty
There are things I lost in the fire of time
Things I thought, again I’ll never see
But when it’s hard for me to recall my name
You remind me

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: Probably my friend Danny. He’s brilliant but definitely crazy. He keeps spreadsheets of his garden plots and has a worm farm in his basement.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Lucky Now” by Ryan Adams

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Pope Francis, David Ramirez, and Gregory Alan Isakov

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Jose Gonzalez at The Parish in Austin, TX. It was him and his guitar. He got up on stage and said “Hello,” then didn’t speak a word the rest of the night. He just played his songs and everyone was glued. I was blown away by what someone could do with just a guitar and voice. Such a powerful, even “spiritual” experience.

I WROTE THIS SONG: Baseline
