Videos by American Songwriter

ARTIST: Lauren St. Jane

SONG: Running Around

HOMETOWN: Birmingham, AL & Marietta, GA

CURRENT LOCATION: Nashville and Georgia

AMBITIONS: To tour and bring my music to the world, work with T-Bone Burnette, write a children’s book, sing and write a James Bond song for film, lip sync with Jimmy Fallon, raise more awareness for Songs for Kids- a nonprofit where we go into the hospitals, sing and share songs with the kids. Music has incredible healing power on kids!

TURN-OFFS: Having to wake up before 10am, sleep deprivation, traffic, the color pink, loud talkers on cell phones.

TURN-ONS: American History, coffee, malbec. I’m a sucker for leather boots, leather anything really. Newly mopped floors, fresh sheets on the bed (I’m sort of a clean freak). I LOVE a good southern breakfast, if you make/buy me breakfast food you’ll be my best friend.

DREAM GIG: The Grand Ole Opry with Emmylou Harris, Linda Rondastadt and Dolly Parton…. wait can I join their group?

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Thunder only happens when it’s raining, players only love you when they’re playing, they say women they will come and they will go, when the rain washes you clean you’ll know ” Dreams, FleetwoodMac

CRAZIEST PERSON I KNOW: My uncle’s ex wife, Merle. I wrote my song, “Southern Girl” about her. She drove a Harley, drank like a fish, mean as the devil and took all his money and ran.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: Hit: “Have I Told You Lately” Van Morrison; Deep Cut: “I Can’t Help Myself”- Ronnie Dunn (this song is so well crafted).

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Jeff Bridges, John Adams

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: My Dad was a huge influence on my music. When I was a kid, he would take me to oldies concerts where he exposed me to some of the greats: Three Dog Night, BTO, The Eagles, The Guess Who, etc. Still treating me to great shows, most recently he took me to Brian Setzer and I was blown away! I hardly ever sat down I was smiling so much my face hurt, dancing and laughing. Brian is a fantastic entertainer who is far underrated if you ask me.

I WROTE THIS SONG: “Running Around” with Angie Aparo. It was a quick and easy tune to write; a friend was piddling on the guitar and the idea came. Although I sat on this song for about a year, it wasn’t quite finished, needed tweaks yet when I’d play it live it was the most requested song. I met Angie Aparo soon afterwards. He was fantastic to work with and he really got me to me get to the meat of this song. I can remember him saying, “Lauren, what is it you’re really trying to say in this song?” and my response was simple, “I want you to love me” and the song was complete.
