Good news for fans of brainy and brooding indie-rock: The National announced they are at work on their seventh album, the follow-up to 2013’s excellent Trouble Will Find YouNME reports.

Frontman Matt Berninger says the band has held a few writing sessions and now has “sketches of 30 songs,” with various towns in upstate New York standing in as working song titles.

Berninger recently unveiled the lead single for his side project, EL VEY, a collaboration with Menomena’s Brent Knopf. “[The record] is written in the voices of a few invented characters, composites of different people – myself, my wife, and other people I was thinking about,” Berninger said.

Listen to EL Vey’s “Return To The Moon” below.
