A few weeks ago, Jim Lauderdale announced Soul Searching: Vol. 1, Memphis/Vol. 2, Nasvhille, a double album recorded in those two legendary musical cities.

Now Jim has shared the title track of the album, from the Memphis disc of the set, exclusively with AS, and we’re excited to premiere it for you below. Recorded and produced with Boo Mitchell and Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars) at Memphis’ famed Royal Studios, the track is quite the departure from Lauderdale’s typically country-tinged sound.

In Lauderdale’s own words: “Soul Searching” (Vol.1 Memphis) was mostly written in the old control room of Royal Studios the day before my session. Boo Mitchell had kindly let me spend the day there to write after I had taken a red eye from California.”

Soul Searching hits shelves September 25.
