Are you a drummer with incredible chops, never able to realize your true potential because of the mediocre musicians that seem to flock to you like moths to a flame? Well dust off that kit, rock star hopeful, here's the chance you've been waiting for.

With the recent departure of long-time drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, alt-rock legends the Smashing Pumpkins have decided to hold open auditions in hopes of finding a suitable replacement.

Auditions will be held on April 10th in Los Angeles. Interested candidates should sent bios, videos, and other information to pumpkinsdrummer@gmail.com.

In other Pumpkins news, slightly off-centered front man Billy Corgan has apparently been collaborating with Mark Tulin, bass player for the 60’s pysch-rock band The Electric Prunes (of "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" fame) on some new demos. Whether or not this collaboration will lead grade A Pumpkins material, or more Zwan-like quality tunes, remains to be seen, but the results are bound to be interesting.

Legendary drummer Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street band thinks he has found a suitable replacement for his spot in the band on Springsteen's current tour: his son.

Legendary drummer Max Weinberg of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street band thinks he has found a suitable replacement for his spot in the band on Springsteen's current tour: his son.

As leader of the Max Weinberg 7, the house band for Conan O'Brien, Weinberg will be making the move to California as they take over "The Tonight Show" on NBC this June; Springsteen's tour runs through August.

Weinberg's nineteen-year-old son, Jay, who played drums on "Born to Run" last summer at Giants Stadium, will step in for his dad, but it remains to be seen if he shares his father's famous capacity for remembering Springsteen's songs -- Weinberg has said that he knows over 1,000 songs by the New Jersey native and can play them all on command. Whether or not his son will have that ability remains to be seen, but if drumming ability is a genetic trait in any way, we're sure he'll do just fine.

Addressing the dual roles of Max Weinberg, Bruce Springsteen said in a statement: "I want to express my appreciation to Conan O'Brien and everyone on his team. We promise to return him in one piece."

“It's not like they're castoffs or anything; they're part of the Narrow Stairs experience. They needed to have a proper home, and the EP is it,” bassist Nick Harmer stated in an MTV interview.

The Open Door, due March 31st, will feature four previously unreleased tracks, as well as a demo recording of the Narrow Stairs track “Talking Bird.” Death Cab for Cutie will take Andrew Bird and Ra Ra Riot on tour this summer, and on July 5th, they'll be joined by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for their show at the Hollywood Bowl.

This week marks the beginning of what will most likely be the most important file sharing trial to date. The Pirate Bay, one of the world's largest torrent sharing websites, from which not only music but full length movies can be downloaded, is being sued in Swedish court by Warner Bros., MGM, EMI, Columbia Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Sony/BMG, and Universal.

Court proceedings began Monday morning. The site's founders, Gottfried Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde Kolmisoppl, and Fredrik Neij, all pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution is claiming that The Pirate Bay is an elaborate criminal organization, complete with financial backers and share holders as well as financial officers. Much attention in the trial thus far has been focused on The Pirate Bay's selling of advertisement on its site.

After lunch, an ironic and highly unpleasant hiccup occurred for the prosecution. Hakan Roswall, head prosecutor and self-proclaimed "expert on computer crimes," was unable to start his computer, and ultimately was forced to continue his case without any technological aides. Roswall so far is focusing on the volume of traffic the site experienced before it was raided in 2006.

During the afternoon proceedings, Peter Sunde sent out a message to his supporters, via the internet, gloating over what he claimed to be an "epic fail" on the prosecution's part.

The case is scheduled to continue into next week.
