Sure, some of the band&#8217;s tunes have been pleasantly ramshackle in a Band-jamming-away-at-Big-Pink kind of way, but few actually stuck, usually wafting away like so much oven smoke through an open window. Suffice to say, the group&#8217;s sixth full-length studio album, &#8220;Be the Void&#8221; (out Feb. 7 on Anti Records), has been a welcome surprise. The record, reminiscent of the Felice Brother&#8217;s 2011 album &#8220;Celebration, Florida,&#8221; finds the crew flirting with an array of unexpected sounds and textures (dig those steel drums introducing &#8220;How Long Must I Wait&#8221;), and even songs about spinning your wheels (&#8220;That Old Black Hole&#8221;) rumble with newfound vigor.
