We no longer offer subscriptions or renewals through the lyric contest.

How do I intern at American Songwriter?

American Songwriter seeks ambitious and energetic interns with a strong interest in “the craft of music.” Internships are unpaid, and require 15-30 hours per week in the office and can be used to gain college credit. Our internships run in cycles: Spring (January to May), Summer (June to August), and Fall (September to December). All internships are based in Nashville, TN.

For a list of all available internship positions and requirements, refer to the descriptions below. All Interships are for credit only, unless otherwise specified by the Internship Coordinator.

Editorial Interns

Interns involved in our editorial department are responsible for maintaining the subscription database, editing and writing daily news pieces for our online site, transcribing interviews, organizing mail, updating publicity and release date lists and providing live coverage of shows and events.

Applications should include a resume, cover letter and 2-3 writing clips either published or written specifically for this position. Previous experience in newswriting is preferred but not required.

Marketing Interns

Marketing interns will focus on learning the daily operations of a multimedia company. Interns have the chance to work closely with the American Songwriter community through maintaining the subscription database, organizing incoming releases, creating marketing initiatives to utilize/expand social media sites and working festival parties and events sponsored by American Songwriter.

Applications should include a resume and cover letter. Previous experience in marketing is preferred but not required.
